Swickheimer Catch Phrases

There are certain phrases or words that are said - mainly by Drew - that Andy gets a hold of........and then he uses the youknowwhat out of them!  We always say that we need to write these down so that we can remember them.

So here we go.

creeper
peep and poop
mutagent ooze
Pickle Pants / Prickle Pants
Are you trying to wrestle me? (said when it doesn't make any sense)

Countdown to Disney

The countdown to our trip to Disney World has officially begun!  In honor of this excitement, we made a Disney Countdown, which is proudly displayed on our landing.

39 days and counting!!!!

SPX Trivia Night

Oh, what a night.

Andy and I, along with three other couples, participated in SPX's annual Trivia Night.  This year's theme was "Holiday."  You could either dress up in attire appropriate for your favorite holiday destination, dress up AS your favorite holiday, OR do nothing.

Which is exactly what the majority of the attendants did.

But not us.

Oh no.  We went balls out.  We went as a group of passengers on a plane - where Matt and his friend, Adam were the pilots - that crashed en route to paradise.

We had black eyes, open wounds, life jackets, emergency exit procedures, flotation devices, broken heels, you name it.

Truth-be-told, we looked like a bunch of idiots, compared to the rest of the people there.

But we sure had fun!

And we won!

Kinda..................

We came in dead-last (pun intended), earning us $100 in a restaurant gift certificate.

Adam's open wounds. Which only lasted 2.2 seconds before they fell off.

I was pretty proud of my make-up efforts. That black eye looked real!

Pilot Matt and his flotation device!

At the time, this was fanFREAKINGhilarious!
This was Natalie's bandage that she used.
Which ended up on the floor at the end of the night.

Friday Night Family Fun with the Indiana Pacers

We enjoyed a night of basketball with the Indiana Pacers, compliments of Emma's basketball group, Upward Basketball.  It was a great deal........$50 for:

  • 4 tickets to the game vs Portland Trailblazers
  • 4 meals (hot dog + chips + soft drink)
  • 4 t-shirts
All of that for fifty bucks!  Not too shabby.

Emma brought along her class bear, which came from Pakistan. They are "pen-pals" with another 1st grade class in Pakistan. They take this bear along to different outings that they go to, showing the Pakistan children some of their culture.

Drew doesn't like his picture taken........

.........so I have to sneak pics in whenever I can...........

......until he notices..........

.......and tries to take the camera away from me!

Now Emma?
Emma LOVES having her picture taken!!!

Operation: Penguin Project

The first big project that the 1st Graders look forward to completing is the "Penguin Project."  This is a project-based learning assignment, meaning it's an "approach to teaching in which students explore real-world problems and challenges. With this type of active and engaged learning, students are inspired to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects they're studying."  (That was compliments of Andrew Swickheimer, CETL.......more on that acronym later.)

All week, the students learned about penguins: their environment, their habitat, characteristics, mating habits, etc.  They had a packet of information that they had to fill out at home, through research on the Internet or other sources.  They also had to create a model penguin.  The students could choose from a handful of different types of penguins: Adelie, African, Emperor, King, Little, Macaroni, Snares, Yellow-Eyed.....who knew there were so many different types?!?

Emma's choice?  The Emperor Penguin.

Why?  Because it's the biggest and the best, of course.

The finished product.

Emma's favorite part: the painting!!!!!

SPX Carnival

The celebration of Catholic Schools week ended with the SPX Carnival.  Always a favorite for the kids (parents = notsomuch), Emma and Drew both enjoyed the games, activities, and CANDY that were offered.

Catholic Schools Week

We celebrated Catholic Schools Week about a month ago (yes Dad, I'm fully aware I have not posted in quite a few weeks!).  To kick the week off, students were able to get out of uniform - which is a BIG DEAL - for Crazy Dress Day.

As usual, Emma did not disappoint with her "craziness."
